Neighbourhood projects to create state-wide jobs

South Australians will access to new walking trails, playgrounds and recreation hubs, with $15 million worth of new Open Space projects receiving funding.

In partnership with local councils, the Marshall Liberal Government has contributed to 19 new open space initiatives in 2021/22, which will benefit communities right across the State.

This includes the Paradise Recreation Plaza project at Paradise, the Kesmond Reserve upgrade at Keswick and the purchase of land to support the Karbeethan Reserve expansion at Gawler.

Minister for Planning and Local Government, Vickie Chapman, said these projects will rejuvenate underutilised areas and provide new amenities for hundreds of thousands of South Australians.

“Our vision is for every South Australian to have access to places they can play, walk or catch up with friends,” Minister Chapman said.

“We are so lucky to live in this beautiful State, where we’re given free access to superb community facilities, but we must continue to invest in them and improve them.

“The added bonus is that with each of these projects comes a pipeline of work, meaning more jobs and opportunities for South Australians,” she said.

The State Government received 52 applications for funding in the 2021/22 round of the Open Spaces Grant Program.

The 19 successful 2021/22 projects, identified by the independent assessment panel, are;
