Liberals will work with the Government on Clare’s Law

The State Liberals are committed to working with the Weatherill Labor Government on developing a model of Clare’s Law for South Australia.

Clare’s Law was introduced in the UK in 2013, and allows a person to make inquiries about their partner if they are concerned that their partner may have previously been violent or abusive.

“Domestic violence is a scourge on our society and it is critical that we take action to address this very serious issue,” said Acting Shadow Minister for the Status of Women Vickie Chapman.

“The Liberal Team will work with the Government to develop a workable model of Clare’s Law for South Australia.

“Any measure that prevents domestic violence or increases protection for domestic violence victims is worth investigation and consideration.

“We also need to continue to work on developing community awareness and education programs, as well as domestic violence focused rehabilitation programs in our prisons.

“We need to send a strong message that domestic violence at any level is unacceptable.”
