The State Liberals are demanding the Weatherill Labor Government explain when the highly anticipated upgrade of Festival Plaza will commence.
Attorney-General John Rau today confirmed to State Parliament that a set timeline for the Walker Corporation development of the Festival Plaza does not exist.
Further, Mr Rau claimed that a formal contract for the major development did not exist and all that existed was a “heads of agreement”.
This is despite Mr Rau telling South Australians last year that demolition of the current Festival Plaza car park and construction of a new car park would commence in 2015.
“The Weatherill Labor Government’s Festival Plaza deal stinks,” said Shadow Minister for State Development Vickie Chapman.
“The delays in the car park upgrade are hampering genuine private sector investment in the form of the Sky City Casino development.
“Business confidence in South Australia is extremely low and this is directly linked to the Weatherill Labor Government’s performance.
“Just like Jay Weatherill and John Rau’s Gillman land deal, the Festival Plaza deal appears to have short-changed South Australians.
“Businesses want to invest in South Australia but they are being hampered by the Weatherill Government’s poor planning and incompetence.
“Mr Weatherill needs to immediately explain when this project will commence or in fact whether Mr Walker is walking away.”
